The Oooh Weee: This Famous Nobody Shoe Snob Tee Has me Feenin’

High Soleciety

Famous Nobody Shoe Snob T shirtHave I told you lately that I love shoes? Well, not only do I love them, but I’ve got pretty discerning taste in them, too. Granted, it’s not always about the price or the brand (though there are certain brands I REFUSE to wear, no matter how cute the shoes are). Usually, it’s a shoe’s ability to stand out from the masses. The shoes I love most aren’t only eye catching… they’re the ones few would dare to wear. I’ve been told it makes me a shoe snob of sorts. As such, wearing this “Shoe Snob” tee by Famous Nobody will keep me from having to explain the stank face I give certain shoes. Apparently Rihanna’s in love with this tee, too… and rightfully so (mama’s shoe game is on a hunnid, thousand, trillion). Want an idea of the shoes that tickle my fancy? Click around Shoes N Booze for a bit.

The Oooh Weee: Screw the Zodiac Change, these Leo-inspired Pieces Have me Feenin’

Rawr! Rawr! Like a…

We’re fabulous, generous, passionate and often creative. We’re also a bit dogmatic, a scoche bossy (I prefer “inclined to lead”) and allegedly interfering. Nonetheless, Leo women are easy to love (ask anyone who knows me).  A bunch of news reports, twitter chatter and Facebook updates are reporting that the planets have shifted over the last 3000 years, and many of us don’t really belong to the zodiac signs we thought we did. Well, to the folks who got us all up in a stir… I don’t believe you. You need more people. I’m pretty much the poster child for Leos, and your claims that I’m actually a Cancer won’t change that… because I said so. Anyway, here are a couple of Leoriffic pieces I’m contemplating to celebrate my sign.

Lulus The Lioness Necklace StyleScrybe Says

Gotta love a necklace that says “If you mess with me, I might bite your head off. “The Lioness Necklace” from Lulus.com does just that, except it’s still cute and dainty in a way. It’s only $17.99, too. See, not EVERYTHING has to be extravagant for a Leo to love it. (Especially if it’s some kind of self-acknowledging accessory.)

Vivre Leo Zodiac Cuff StyleScrybe SaysLeos are also fans of sparkly-yet-not-obnoxious things (OK most of us like sparkly things in general, but we know how to rock them properly). That must be why I’m such a fan of this Leo Zodiac Cuff by Jessica Kagan Cushman (via Vivre.com for $85)

Modcloth I Aint Lion Earrings ShoesNBoozeThe moment I saw these dangly “I Ain’t Lion” earrings, I was in love. Lions? Check! Odd detail? Check! Dope with a fro? CHECK! In stock? Nope. Still, I had to share them… maybe they’ll be back at ModCloth soon. (Gotta love a restock notification list. *blink*)

Know of other leotastic accessories I should be eyeballing? Let me know!

Collabo Row: Lanvin X H&M for Holiday 2010

Can't Help But Wait...

H&M picks some of the best bedfellows. EVER. Whether it's Madonna, Victor & Rolf or any other of the long list of impressive names, they always draw huge (and often brutal) crowds. No matter the mash-up the debut day line is guaranteed to be blocks long. This time, it's Lanvin that has fashion whores lusting. The collection will be released in November, just in time for the holidays. Santa, Baby, I suggest you start taking notes now. I'm sure items from this collection will top many-a-list.

The Oooh Weee: VS PINK NFL Gear Has Me Feenin

The JETS Set

Here's another little factoid about me. In my role as a PR consultant, I work on the accounts of a few professional football players, one of whom is NY JETS linebacker, Calvin Pace (@jetsPACE97 on twitter). Yes, that means I get to attend a game or two. No, that doesn't mean I wear a signed #97 jersey (or ANY jersey) to those games. They simply don't look good on me. You can imagine my delight, then, when I got wind that Victoria's Secret PINK released a line of NFL themed gear, and the New York JETS are a featured team. Yay! This season I'll be reppin' my set in accented team T-shirts. This short sleeved one ($36.50 and available HERE) will do the trick while it's warm out. The scoop neck means I can serve up a little sexy in the stands (never know whom you'll see where). Then, when the temp drops, I can switch to the three quarter sleeve green one ($39.50 and available HERE). (Now, I just need to figure out what shoes I'll wear.)

Five, Six, Pick Up... (Hearts for Valentine's Day)

No Chocolate Covered Candy Hearts...
StyleScrybe's having another solo Valentine's Day (Bah Humbug), but I'm not bitter. As a matter of fact, me, myself and I actually make quite the nice threesome. Since I'm a romantic, though (eff Vday!), I decided to share some of the heart- centric finds with which I've fallen in love.

Betsey Johnson Leopard Bow Heart Ring, ($35.00 by Betsey Johnson at Nordstrom), ASOS Heart Seam Sheer Tights ($14.20 at Asos),

Vivienne Westwood + Melissa Lady Dragon Heart II Slingback Pump ($150.00 by Vivienne Westwood at Endless.com), Heart Purse- Red ($45.00 at Harmony Lane)

Shop to Save (Saving $ is good, but saving lives with Fashion for Haiti is great)

So Let's Start Giving...

A month ago, a large magnitude earthquake rocked Haiti's capital city, killing untold numbers of people and leaving Port-Au-Prince in ruins. In the direct aftermath, peole donated money, clothing and other necessary items to the best of their abilities. Telethons were held, celebrities collaborated on songs, and there seemed to be a general feeling of compassion. However, many of us have short attention spans. Once a story leaves manstream news reports, it also tends to leave the minds of the masses. Well, the fashion industry, via the CFDA's Fashion for Haiti initiative, hasn't forgotten. On February 16th, the "Fashion for Haiti" T-shirt will go on sale at stores throughout the country. Net proceeds from the sale of the $25 tees will be donated by the CFDA Foundation to the Bush Clinton Haiti Fund, which is raising funds for "immediate, high impact relief" and also continued relief over time. I'm a size small, so while you're out buying yours, feel free to get me one. Yes, I'll be buying one for myself, too, but this way I can cut one up, and still have one intact to wear with my black leggings and zebra print high heeled rain boots. (YES... I you read that right. I have them in leopard print, too.)
P.S. If you click HERE, you'll see which retailers are selling the shirts. You'll also find other fashionable ways to assist relief efforts.

I Wish I May, I Wish I Might (I'll have this Judith Leiber Ganesh Clutch when my pockets get right)

Let's pretend I won the lottery, had a visit from my fairy godparent (he or she's out there somewhere, I just know it) or found some other way into a whole lotta chedda. If said fantasy were to come true, please believe a MAJOR shopping spree would be very close to the top of my to-do list. 'Til that happens, though, let's play a little game of "that's my bag."

Meditation in a Clutch

I seriously heart sparkly things, especially if they're colorful (I've been that way since my TinyScrybe days). I'm also drawn to objects of a spiritual nature. That said, the fact that StyleScrybe is madly in love with the Judith Leiber Ganesh fine crystal-embellished clutch is a no brainer. Widely revered as the Lord of Beginnings and the Lord of Obstacles, Ganesh is one of the most easily recognized deities in Hindu and Buddhist belief systems. Stylescrybe could definitely benefit from the removal of a few obstacles (like the one that's keeping her from the $5,595.00 Net-A-Porter wants for this bejeweled beauty). I'm gonna have to do more than sing in the subway for this one... but if I give an arm, what will I use to carry it? For now, I'll be grooving to SWV's "New Beginning" (remember that?) Maybe it'll stir a money-making scheme. Ohmmmm.

The Ooooooo-Weee! (More intense than a normal fashion fix, these BluBlockers have me feenin')

Birthday Specs

In case you didn't know, yours truly has a birthday approaching (very rapidly, and NO I won't tell how many candles should be on the cake). I know, now you're wondering what to get me. Don't fret, pets. You know StyleScrybe is always thinkin' of ya, so most of this week's posts will be dedicated to my birthday wishlist. First up: pink BluBlockers (yeah... the ones from the infomercials). I'm not as concerned about their supposed ability to "let you see sharper, clearer and with less distortion" as I am about their funky look. Plastic aviators? Timeless! And can you GET any girlier than bubble gum pink? (read that last sentence again, and say it like Chandler from "Friends.") Yep! feel free to send these my way, and since they're only $38, you can throw in another too. Oh... um... not to be a pain, but they're limited edition, so if you could get on that before they run out, it'd be great. THANKS!

Mad Props: President Barack Obama

Pride, a Deeper Love...

StyleScrybe's sore today. I got spent Monday night on the floor of my cousin's office, woke up at 5:30 AM Tuesday and then walked what seemed like a million blocks in heels to stand in the freezing cold for hours. It was well worth it, though because I was present at one of the most historical events in my life (and this country's history). Yes, I was there... at the Inaugural Ceremony. I stood shivering in the huddled mass of people to see Michelle Obama hold the Bible Abraham Lincoln used at his swearing in while her husband, President Barack Hussein Obama, took the Oath of Office. We received tickets to the standing area at the last minute, and I could barely see the jumbotron through the bare branches of a tree. Still, my grandchildren will be able to tell their friends I was there. My mother, who was unable to make the trip to D.C. was able to live vicariously through me.

150 years ago, I would have been human chattel, 100 years ago I would have been considered a nigger, 50 years ago I would have called myself a negro, 25 years ago, I was Black, and yesterday I was African American. Today, I am American. No, all racial context of my life has not been erased. I am the granddaughter of a Black Panther, the descendant of slaves (and slaveholders and Native Americans). The hardships and atrocities faced by my forefathers and foremothers has not been forgotten nor vindicated. There is still a HUGE racial divide. Hegemony is still VERY MUCH in effect. And, just as any orphan would, my people still have MAJOR issues. (I often say I come from an orphaned race because much our our history, etc is so obscured.) However, President Obama's presence in the Oval Office brings to mind that line from "The Jeffersons" theme song, "We've finally got our piece of the pie!" (I really could go on and on about the significance of the day, but then you'd get bored with me and not come back)

Oh! I wouldn't be StyleScrybe if I didn't take a moment to admire Mrs. Obama's Inaugural fashion choices. She was absolutely radiant at the ceremony in her yellow-green Isabel Toledo ensemble with green J.Crew gloves and patent Jimmy Choo pumps. Later, her white Jason Wu gown was a fairy tale all its own.

The Ooooooo-Weee! (More intense than a normal fashion fix, thes Via Spiga Novella boots have me feenin')

Life on the Fringe

Thus far, StyleScrybe's been anti- the whole fringe thing. Yeah, I know they're all the rage, but a woman with true style can always say "no" to a trend she doesn't like. One look at these "Novella" boots by Via Spiga have lead me to veto my decision, though (OK, maybe not a total veto, but I'm at least making an ammendment). They're pearlized leather, have a 4 inch heel and the shaft is tall enough for them to qualify as ef-me boots. The long fringe is simply a little hippie chic thrown into the mix (and since it's less voluminous than most of what's out there, I won't look like a Woodstock relic). Plus, next year, if fringes are out, you can tie them into a bow or find something else creative to do with them. Not bad for the $212.50 Shoes.com wants for them, right?

For tha Low Low: H&M's Bangin B.O.G.O.

Scoop- Scoop- Be- Doop...

StyleScrybe's got the scoop on a sale you won't want to miss. (Wrote a blog about it. Like to hear it? Here it go!) I was perusing the sale rack at h&m yesterday, when I spied with my stylish eye (yeah I like that phrase so get used to it) something that I just HAD to buy. I'd been stalking this silver loose-knit sweater tank for a while, and it FINALLY had one of those red $10 tags on it! I get it to the register and the cashier asks "You don't want your somethin' free?" (Repita por favor?) I mean, I'd seen the signs, but I thought the "Buy one, get one free" was only on certain sale items. Honey... EVERYTHING in the sale section is included! I'm going for round two tomorrow. Maybe I'll see you there!

I Wish I May, I Wish I Might: Louis Vuitton Sprouse Collection

Let's pretend I won the lottery, had a visit from my fairy godparent (he or she's out there somewhere, I just know it) or found some other way into a whole lotta chedda. If said fantasy were to come true, please believe a MAJOR shopping spree would be very close to the top of my to-do list. 'Til that happens, let's play a little game of "that's my bag."

Urban Scrawl

StyleScrybe's seeking a do-over of 2009's beginning for a few folks. Seems the tides of trauma lingered a little past the ball-drop for some of my family. I'm still on "if I want it, it's mine," though, so right now I'm claiming a Speedy bag from Louis Vuitton's new Stephen Sprouse Collection. Available as of January 9th, the brightly embellished collection pays tribute to, and is inspired by the work of Stephen Sprouse, the late American fashion designer and artist known for bringing downtown cool to the uptown crowd. (He also collaborated with Marc Jacobs on his first LV collection.) The collection consists of various bags, accessories and leather goods- all bearing either neon grafitti or Sprouse's signature flowers. I'm all about the Speedy 30 in flourescent Monogram Grafitti and in Monogram Roses. However, considering they current financial climate and their pricetags of $1180 and $1310, respectively, I might have to jack somebody (B*tch run that! Run that! Ante up!) to get mine. Nah, I'm a lover, not a jacker. I'll just pray for some freelance work (I got skills! Holla at me, bay-beh). Either that or you can catch me panhandling at the train station lol.

The Ooooooo-Weee! (More intense than a normal fashion fix, here's what has me feenin')

I Gotsta Have It

StyleScrybe's a space cadet. I went to Target last night to pick up a few things and got all the way to the register before I realized I'd left my wallet home. While I was there, though I spied with my stylish eye a couple of items I will definitely have to buy. With the holiday season crashing down upon me, I'll attending to a function or two, and this recession has made it impossible to buy outfits for each and still get my Santa on. Thank goodness Target's Limited Edition line is right on time. Some of the stuff is a little too "9-5" for me, but I fell in love with the drape tulip skirt (pictured left and only costs $24.99) and the jeweled cardigan, which is also only $24.99. (Yes, I got a little "Pointdexter" in my swag lol). They may look a little plain Jane on here, but wait till I funk them up with cool accessories and hot heels.

Shop to Save (Because Saving $$$ is Good but Saving Lives is Best)

Oochie Gucci La La La!

It's baaack, and it may be the drool-worthiest one yet. Yes, girls, the super-dope limited-edition Gucci cruise collection- partial proceeds of which will benefit UNICEF- is here! This time creative director, Frida Giannini, took her cue from the tatted-up trend that's everywhere from designer tees to makeup pallettes, imprinting each piece with a stylized tattoo heart over a backdrop of the brand's iconic double G motif. Prices range from $185 for a small cosmetics case to $4590 for a "Hysteria" bag (love both, but neither are pictured here with my faves), and 25% of sales from the Tattoo Heart Collection will help UNICEF provide education, healthcare, protection and clean water programs to orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. Oh, and this year Gucci tapped gorgeous, Grammy Award-winning glam gal, Rihanna (Pictured with Frida Giannini and Madonna) to be the global representative of the 2008 campaign. The gamine goddess is not only featured in print ads but was also on hand the other night for the line's November 19th launch and the lighting of the UNICEF Snowflake at Grand Army Plaza in New York.

Five, Six, Pick Up... (Pop Art Accessories)

I know... Go ahead... Cuss me out. I didn't give you great Obama stuff in honor of his win, left you hanging when you needed costume tips for Halloween and have basically been straight ghost lately. I'm sorry. Now you can hug me because you missed me as much as I missed you. I'd have to start a whole new blog to explain the whirlwind that's been my life over the past month, so let's just get back to regularly scheduled programming. K?

Hip Pop Hooray!

StyleScrybe thinks life's too serious these days. Between the financial crisis, foreclosures and layoffs, it seems the Fun Fairy might be missing in action. That means we've gotta inject a little whimsy wherever we can. Pop art-inspired accessories are a great way to start, especially if you're a quirky girl like me. The best part: these quick hits of happy won't be too hard on your budget. Smile.

Put granny's cameo away for safe keeping (tough economy means the "streets is watchin'"), and replace it with this funky fresh one from Kidrobot by Tarina Tarantino (SS loves her stuff!). Yeah, it'll cost ya $120, but won't it make you smile everytime you look at it? Plus, it's just as great with jeans and a tea as it is with more office-friendly looks.

If you're a chic geek, upgrade your USB game with with a Robot Happy Laura portable memory key by Active Crystals from Philips & Swarovski. Use her double-clasped chain to hook her to your belt loop, purse or anywhere else, and then off with her head when you need extra memory on the go! She'll set you back $180 but will come in handy when you visit your friend's office for lunch and her boss asks for your resume. (You've been wanting to work there forever.)

Tough times mean you gotta watch your wallet. You won't be able to take your eyes off this one by Ysaku Hanakuma on Poketo! Each side features a super bad Jiu Jitsu master on a bright backdrop, and it has slots for ID, credit card and your membership bonus card to your favorite store. (Those points sure are helpful these days, right?) Oh, and this limited edition piece of pocket art is only $20.

When it rains, it pours. But every optimist knows that just means you make a game of jumping in the puddles. If you're wearing these "Leopard" rain boots by Toki Doki x Chooka, you'll be able to keep your feet dry and your look hip while you do it. Hurry to the Giant Peach and grab a pair... these things sell out quickly! Yeah $120 is a bit much for rain boots, but you shouldn't put a price limits on smiles. Did I mention they'll go with almost anything?

I don't know about you, but I've lost the little leather tabs that pull the zippers on countless purses. No fretting for me, though, because I just find fun little zipper pulls to replace them. Up next: a metallic Qee. These friendly little helpers only cost $6.99 at Hot Topic and come in a variety of colors. You already know I'm going for fuschia (but they only had a picture of the blue one lol).

WTF Moment: Howcome Everybody's Naked?

I Guess Everybody's Right Said Fred

(Too sexy for their clothes)

So, Ciara stripped for VIBE and Eva Mendez did it for Calvin Klein. Not sure who restarted this mainstream bare-all trend, and also not sure what I think of it. On one hand, a main part of my reason for picking up the glossies is the fashion (meaning I wanna see some folks wearing clothes, whether in ads or editorial spreads. No homo, but if I wanted pics of hot, nude chicks, I'd pick up Playboy, King or some other T&A mag). On the other, I have exhibitionist tendencies, so I kinda dig it, especially since there's some class involved. (It's not like they're showing va-jay-jay or anything.) ELLE Magazine's Maggie Bullock (one of my fave editors to pitch when I was a publicist) caught up with Mizz Mendez to chat about her too-hot-for-TV commercials etc, and she revealed that (like StyleScrybe) she prefers to walk around her home sans clothes. Wanna see what else she said (or just check out the hot fashion spread)? Click here. For more of Ci Ci's photos and to let folks know what you think of them, visit My Fashion Frenzy. Tell Nikki I sent cha.

The Ooooooo-Weee! (More intense than a normal fashion fix, here's what has me feenin')

Bag in the Days

StyleScrybe's headed out of town for Labor Day weekend, and I'm hoping you are too. If you haven't found the perfect overnight bag yet, consider the via ambrosia duffel from FredFlare.com. With prep school styling and pops of color, it's a great way to travel in style. Plus it has ample pockets for you cell phone, mini toiletries, etc. Oh, the best part is that it's only $48, and it also makes a great never-know-what-the-night-may-bring purse (y'all know what i mean).

Shop to Save (Because Saving $$$ is Good but Saving Lives is Best)

Bagging Rights...

Whoever thought there'd be a day when we'd actually have to shop for shopping bags? Seriously, at one point it was simply paper or plastic. Now, there are store brand reusable bags, designer canvas totes with eco-gimmicks (that seldom hold all your groceries) and a multitude of other options. Stylescrybe's new favorite, however, is the its-las-tic bag. Made from super stretchy material, the bags can expand to twice their size and (according to the website) help your load feel a little lighter. The best part, though, is that they're manufactured in New Orleans in a factory that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and rebuilt by survivors. In an effort to help stimulate N.O.'s struggling economy, its-las-tic also employs and outsources work almost exclusively to New Orleans natives (don't worry, I doubt they'd deny you a job if you weren't born on a bayou). Plus, 5% of sales go to Hope House, which aims to provide help and hope to those who need it. Oh, did i mention that they're cute, affordable and come in a bunch of colors n patterns?

The Ooooooo-Weee! (More intense than a normal fashion fix, here's what has me feenin')

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yesterday was StyleScrybe's
birthday. (Don't worry... I'm still accepting well wishes, gift cards and presents.) There are quite a few pluses to having a birthday in early August: you can easily do something outdoors to celebrate (lunch on the outside patio of your fave restaurant, for instance), it's a great time to take a cruise (next year!) and you can wear your sexiest skirt and most incredible sandals! The one semi-minus is the fact that it's hard to find peridot jewelry that's cute, affordable and doesn't look like your crazy aunt's costume jewelry. If you're a light green gem girl like me, this post is for you. As I was shopping for my gift to myself this year, I came across a couple of cute pieces featuring the stone that symbolizes faith. What I like most about these is that they work whether your wearing jeans or a dress, and they're all less than $200! Now, if during your shopping you decide you'd rather get me one of these than the Donna Karan bag from a few posts ago... have at it sister!

I Wish I May, I Wish I Might (I'll have this Donna Karan Tote when My Pockets get Right!)

Leo and Behold

Let's pretend I won the lottery, had a visit from my fairy godparent (he or she's out there somewhere, I just know it) or found some other way into a whole lotta chedda. If said fantasy were to come true, please believe a MAJOR shopping spree would be very close to the top of my to-do list. 'Til that happens, let's play a little game of "that's my bag."

StyleScrybe's birthday is quickly approaching, and while it's not time for cake and candles yet I'm already closing my eyes and making wishes. One such wish is that some benevolent soul will buy me the oh-so-timeless Modern Leo Large Tote by Donna Karan (or pay me enough to buy it myself). It's neither trendy nor headed for "it-bag-dom", but it's classic, stylish and durable... the kind of thing that may last longer than most first marriages (another wish on my list). The $1895 price tag is about as hefty as the bag will be once filled with shoes, notebooks and makeup, but the hand crafting and sturdy shrunken lamb leather make it well worth the price.

If you'd like to contribute to the birthday bag fund, please holla at a sista and let me know where to send the collection envelope. Until then, keep an eye out for me at traffic lights with a squeegee.
