High & Dry

You may not be able to tell from the crazy weather patterns on the east coast, but the calendar says summer’s fast approaching. It’s almost time for partying poolside and lounging on the beach. I haven’t even started the process of bathing suit shopping for the year (Gasp! Cringe! *sucks stomach in*), but I’ve already spotted my first must-have beach towel. EVERYONE knows StyleScrybe is a shoe geek, so imagine the delight I felt when I spied a picture of the Patricia Field Original Pumps Beach Towel in my inbox.

One of my least favorite parts about going to the beach is the fact that I have to be in flats (heels in the sand seldom work out quite right). With this towel, at least I’ll be able to lounge on a few pairs even if I can’t walk in them. The website doesn’t provide exact measurements (maybe Miss Pat should hire StyleScrybe to do product descriptions), but it looks pretty big in the pictures. I’d say it’s worth the $25 (pending a trip to the Pat Field fashion playground to cop a feel for softness).

Tonight, I'm Cleanin' Out My Closet

There are 2 things everyone knows about me (well, everyone who knows me, anyway). The first is that my favorite color is fuchsia (unrelated to most other facts, but still an important one to know). The second is that I love shoes (so much that I have a blog dedicated to them- and booze). I've actually been contemplating selling off a few pairs, but haven't been able to decide on how to do it. Craigslist isn't exactly the safest option, people only want to spend pennies at most flea markets and certain auction sites are so saturated already. Plus the fees aren't worth what I'll be able to get for the shoes. I recently connected with Ellen Simes, a fellow fan of spirits and shoes, who owns iftheshoedoesntfit.com, an online shoe auction website. (Kismet?) With low fees and a user-friendly format, iftheshoedoesntfit.com provides an easy and affordable way to sell, swap or shop for shoes. Now I know what to do with my shoes. The shoes you see here are among the ones I'm considering auctioning off. Which would you be more likely to bid on?

Don't Call it a Comeback...

OK, you can call it a comeback, a reappearance, or whatever you want... as long as you're happy it's happening. I got lost in the sauce of life for a little while, but I'm back to the grill again, and I'm cookin' up good stuff for ya! Let's make a deal... So, How was your Fourth of July? Mine was fantastic! I got to attend the Capitol Concert and fireworks show in DC this year (and on some VIP ish in the special seats!) It was really cool seeing Barry Manilow and Aretha Franklin (what was she wearing?!), but my highlights were Natasha Bedingfield, who had on a FIERCE pair of platforms (she may have been standing extra tall, but I'm the one who got a high from those shoes!) and the Sesame Street Muppets (I sang along to almost every song!) My seat wasn't close enough to the stage to get a clear pic, so I took one of the jumbotron.

Oh, and for the first time, I was all red, white & blue-tifully patriotic (because this year, I'm proud of the steps my country is taking... My President's Black...). How you like my outfit? Oh, and "Check My Footwork!" (You ain't got these!)... but you can if you hurry to Charlotte Russe (sometimes, you gotta give props to the cheapie spots). Anyway, it feels good to be back. Next post, I'll tell you why you NEED to make sure you take advantage of ANY opportunity you get to see Chrisette Michele perform live. Stay tuned.

Life on the Fringe

Thus far, StyleScrybe's been anti- the whole fringe thing. Yeah, I know they're all the rage, but a woman with true style can always say "no" to a trend she doesn't like. One look at these "Novella" boots by Via Spiga have lead me to veto my decision, though (OK, maybe not a total veto, but I'm at least making an ammendment). They're pearlized leather, have a 4 inch heel and the shaft is tall enough for them to qualify as ef-me boots. The long fringe is simply a little hippie chic thrown into the mix (and since it's less voluminous than most of what's out there, I won't look like a Woodstock relic). Plus, next year, if fringes are out, you can tie them into a bow or find something else creative to do with them. Not bad for the $212.50 Shoes.com wants for them, right?

StyleScrybe's got a little limp these days. (I can't reveal all the details, but I suggest not holding your drunk homie's hand to guide her through the club because she might take you with her when she falls. So much for secrecy, huh?) In addition to the pain in my knee, there's also some sorrow in my heart; I've had to stay off my stilettos for a while, so this summer, I'm an involuntary "flattie girl." Not one for looking blending in, I'm avoiding flat gladiators. That basically means I've had to "maintain my sexy" in hot, jeweled thongs (get your mind out of the gutter... I'm talking about sandals, silly). Whether you're anti high-altitude shoes, headed on a late summer sabbatical or hobbling like me, I figured you might be also in the market for a pair or two. Keepin' it Short

Every now and then you come across a pair that you wanna wear forever (even after your injury heals). For that, you'll pay a little more, but the consistent compliments make them worth it. Get some go-with-everything multicolored ones like the "Annette" by Cynthia Vincent ($139.99 on Piperlime.com) or the "Navajo Jewel" by Jack Rogers ($125 on Jildorshoes.com).

It's Independence day, and while some people still really celebrate the United States' liberation from England, I'm sure there are a bunch of folks who are happy to have a few days of freedom from the office. Oh, plus there's the parties, cookouts and great food. You've already decided which invitations you're accepting and which dishes you're bringing where. The only dilemma: what do you wear on your feet? Stilettos get stuck in the grass, but it can be hard to look hot in flats and flip flops (vacation suggestions coming soon, though). Don't forget you might stop by that pool party at some point, and your girl made sure the guy lineup is tasty as her famed apple pie. My suggestion (by now y'all know it's the StyleScrybe way to stand above the crowd): W-E-D-G-E-S to accent your patriotic palette. If you're more of a pinup princess, $75 is a proper price for RSVP's "Farah" red patent pretties.














Ruling Class Only

Democracy isn't digging into your pockets (because then how'd you buy such gorgeous shoes?). You'll be at the country club this weekend, right? Even with all the bbq sauce around, you can afford to wear white. In these Dolce & Gabbana wedges, you'll be quite a sight. (OK, enough rhyming) Pop over to Neiman Marcus and drop the $595. I don't know if I've ever seen a more patriotic pair.

That New New for You You (Nude Shoes Headed Stateside)

StyleScrybe is doing her happy dance! You know how you see the perfect shoe on a site like Shoewawa or the Shoe Blog and get excited because it goes perfectly with your "freak 'em" dress... and then you feel all let down because it's only sold on other continents, and by the time you pay the converted price you're looking at "I Wish I May" numbers? Soon that won't be the case with Nude shoes. The infinitely chic Autralian brand that manages to mix vintage and modern in the perfect proportions is headed stateside. I'm not sure where they'll be available yet, but my sources say they'll be sold at great prices in a controlled distribution set. I'll keep you posted, though.

I'm gon' get you high today... 'cause it's Friday (I'm talking about heels silly! I know you got a job, and you got sh!t to do). For those of us who shop our woes away, an adorable pair of 4-inch heels at a great price makes for true retail therapy. I prescribe these round toed, patent pleather "Jillian" boots by Sarah Jayne. If you have a Shi by Journeys store near you, they're only $10 (Nope, i didn't forget a zero)! Unfortunately, they're sold out online... sorry. They're not for everyday wear, though, so I'll be wearing mine on yucky weather days when events call for high heels but i don't want to endanger my finer footwear. Who loves ya?

Cold, Goin' Mad...

I don't know about you, but I've got a case of the "Can't-wait-for-spring" blues. Yeah, Yeah, it's been a relatively mild winter, but everywhere I look, there are reminders of warmer weather. Stores are bringing in spring inventory, and all the fash-rags are telling us how to transition into the next season (the really high sedity ones are reporting on resort attire for those who can afford to escape to more temperate climes... uh huh I will one day when my pockets get right). The rest of us (especially those in windowless cubicles) have to do something to shake this S.A.D (Seasonal Affective Disorder, duh) monkey off our back, though. I say we add a little brightness to our days with pops of color, whether it's a little accessory or an article of apparel. Here are five ideas I found that should help us all get a sunnier disposition.

Just a Touch ($)

A little goes a long way with punchy pigments, so if you're on the conservative side a belt or piece of jewelry may be enough for you. Added to neutral basics, they take you from hum-drum to hotness (and often without diving too far into your pockets). Try this "opposites attract" belt ($7.00) from Lulu's Fashion Lounge (or a bright skinny belt like this Gap one) with a khaki shirtdress, or pair Urban Outfitters' pink agate charm necklace ($38.00) with a white button-up and almost any bottom.
















For the Cool in Hue ($$)

For those who are a little more daring, a key accessory in a vivid shade should do the trick. Let Boutique 9's $135 "U and Me" pumps in dark pink patent perk up gray pants, or get carried away by a bright bag, like Steven by Steve Madden's $195 "Mosaic" in fuchsia.













All Bright with Me ($$$)

Some of us are just plain bold and enjoy standing out. If that's you, go for a simple shift in a stand-out shade, like this $460 indigo "Katen" sweater dress from Diane Von Furstenberg.

Pump up the Volume!

Hey style sistas! I hope you had happy holidays and are planning to make a great '08. I've decided this year not to make any real resolutions other than to live my life the way I'm supposed to (yep, that means to enjoy the hell out of it and do what I can to help others enjoy too)... oh, and cop these $180 color-banded "Chelsea" pumps by Betsey Johnson. I came across them during my quest for the quintessential NYE get-up. Amazingly, my dress was the one color that didn't get a stripe on these shoes, so they're still in the store calling my name (very loudly!). If you're bold enough to go to these bright heights and beat me to Lord & Taylor or to DJ Premium, you have to swear not to wear them at the same place and time as me. (I saw them first, so girlfriend rule #20 gives me dibs). Oh, please wear them with something simple (but not plain) so you don't look like a Studio 54 reject in an NYE runner-up outfit.

On the Low, Though, Shhh...

Last week, when my fam was here from "Tha A", they wanted to do the tourist thing in NY. Then a friend of mine came up from B-More to shop. I'm game for wearing heels to do almost anything, but with all the cracks and vents, New York streets are too treacherous for long treks in good shoes. As I got dressed, I realized the need for a fly pair of flat boots. I'm not into looking like a cookie-cutter teeny bopper (though I'm barely a day over 20, wink wink), so the 80's-inspired pointy-toed, slouchy boots don't do it for me. A pair of equestrian boots, though, is the perfect wardrobe addition for this clotheshorse. Unfortunately, riding boots (at least the cute ones) can cost a pretty penny. I gotta shout out Tia at Shake Your Beauty for her post on a party dress from Delia's, which, of course led me to a search of the site's shoe department. Gasp! These boots are only $67! Don't spill the beans, though or everybody'll be beat-biting, and we can't have that. So these will be our little secret... pinky swear?

Gangsta Heezeelz!!!

If you're a true music fan, you'll rock a t-shirt featuring your favorite act, right? Well, why should it be any different with fashion, or more specifically, footwear? This "Dressed to Kill" raglan from Hellz Bellz is the edgiest shoe shout out I've ever seen, and I'm lovin' it. I see it with gray or black skinny jeans and converses or ankle boots. I might even be funny and wear a denim mini and ballet flats with opaque tights. I like to keep folks on their toes like that. For only 48 smackeroos, you can get one of your own at Cultlist. Be forewarned, any chick who dares wear this tee better have enough attitude to carry it off. Not for the faint of heart (or foot), it screams "sex, murder and mayhem" (Hov is so quotable!). When you wear your heart on your heels, though, there's bound to be a little bloodshed, right?.

Is it me, or do these shoes make you hum the Toys R Us theme? (C'mon sing along) Giraffe prints to round toes to school-girl bows, it's the cutest pair of flats there is... (OK, no more singing.) These adorable flats from the Gap, originally priced at an affordable $39.50 but on sale for $12.99, won't even take away from your milk (ahem, cocktail) money. Here's the catch, though, they only have size 6 left.

When it comes to music, "Crews pop to Hip Hop" (Shout out to the Youngstas... where are those dudes now anyway?), but fashion's all caught up in metal mania. These lustrous, stretchy jeans from Cheap Monday are a perfect way to keep my derriere debonair. Pop into your local Urban Outfitters and cop a pair or two. At only $65, it's almost like you didn't pay for them at all... get it? "Buns of Steal?" And all this time you were thinking I had a typo in the title... pshaw!

Pump Pump Pump Pump it Up!

When was the last time you saw a pair of shoes for under $200 that were so fly they had you stuck on stupid? It actually happens to me pretty often (yeah, my shoe obsession runs deep), but with footwear each new high feels just as good as the first one. These sexy cracked leather "Alix" pumps from Report, with their almond toes and high collar, are the perfect addition to my fall lineup. Dude, they're only $189 at Zappos! Yep, I'm officially a card-carrying "crack" head.

Crazy Sexy Cool

Two parts biker, two parts cowgirl, and one part city-slicker, these "Ms. Fix-it" boots from Seychelles are all parts hot. I'm big on almond toes because they give you all the sexy without the squeeze of pointy toes. And the unfinished edges give them an extra shot of, well, edginess. I'm seein' them with some tights and an over-sized sweater or button up with a hot belt.


My Pink & My Two-step

How Holly "Golightly meets Cyndi Lauper" are these casual skimmers from Shellys London?! I'm usually not one for flats, but the metallic pink makes them just plain fun(ky). Surprisingly, I might even wear them out to an event or two... maybe with a mini and some tights. They're so comfy, I'll be able to dance and prance all night. They're only fitty bucks, too. It's on... grab the Patron!

Fit to be Tied...

Menswear-inspired? Check! On-trend with this season's "shooties"? Check! Perfect with almost everything? Huge Check! I'm starting to twitch in anticipation just looking at this pair from Report. With the mercury doing a yo-yo job, these peep-toes will pair perfectly with my pencil skirts, colored denim and everything in between. I may even do 'em with some of those great socks or tights that are all the rage this season. Not that I wear any of my shoes that often, but still, so many options. And at $189 on zappos.com, I can actually afford them.



Color Me Bad ("Not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good")...

Imma be a bad mamma jamma in these "sari pink" treats from Rich & Skinny (even though I'm not exactly rich... or skinny). They're a great color for fall, and I can rock them with pumps, ankle boots, flats or what i like to call "come get me boots." I'm getting my "1 and 2 and..." on just to make sure I can get into them without doing "please fit me shimmy" when they arrive. The $176 Shopbop.com wants for them aint a bargain, but I'll spend an extra penny or two on my favorite hue.
